Specific nutrients serve a wide variety of functions in the body to support optimal health. What is rarely discussed, however, is the fact that no nutrient functions independently within the body. The Complete Minerals line combines specific single mineral nutrients with other minerals, trace minerals, vitamins, and nutrients known to enhance the expected results.
Calcium: This mineral, found in many dairy products, is keenly involved in bone formation and bone resorption. Researchers at the University of Iowa College of Medicine discovered that calcium intake alone did not boost bone density. Rather, calcium, when combined with vitamin D (see below), resulted in increased bone density. There is a significant body of research confirming the importance of minerals and trace minerals, including magnesium, manganese and copper, in building bone density.
Calcium also performs a number of functions in the body such as blood clotting and nerve transmission. Studies show that calcium can help reduce high blood pressure.
Magnesium: This mineral participates in more than 300 enzymatic reactions that maintain cell structure and function. Magnesium works very closely with calcium. Researchers know that magnesium works with calcium to build bones. According to Dr Seelig(1), "Magnesium is also necessary to form normal bones to convert vitamin D to one of the hormones needed for utilization of calcium, which is the major structural component of bone. Less widely considered is the role of magnesium in forming the organic portion (bone matrix) that prevents brittleness and protects against fractures."
Magnesium also regulates the balance of calcium and sodium in our cells. If our bodies lack sufficient magnesium, calcium and sodium are allowed to flood into cells which can then have a constricting effect. Magnesium is also important in regulating our heartbeat and helping our blood vessels to remain relaxed and open, which affects blood pressure.
Vitamin D: This vitamin is absolutely important in the absorption of calcium. Vitamin D is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D, a prohormone, which, in turn, is then converted to 1,25 vitamin D or calciferol. This hormone is what transports calcium from the gastrointestinal tract directly to the bones. Grapefruit Concentrate: Grapefruit assists with calcium and magnesium absorption.
Horsetail (Shavergrass): This herb is utilised in this product as it is involved in the absorption of calcium. It is also important for the health and maintenance of collagen, a connective tissue that maintains the elasticity and strength of our joints and skin
