Unique MGO™ Manuka Honey is gathered from a common New Zealand shrub known as Manuka or botanically as Leptospermum scoparium. For years the special anti-bacterial properties of manuka honey were known and measured by a general measurement of its biological effect.
What really caused the antibacterial activity remained a mystery for almost 15 years until a research group led by Professor Thomas Henle from the University of Dresden (Germany) discovered what makes MGO™Manuka Honey so unique.
MGO™ Manuka honey has a substantial Dietary Methylglyoxal content ranging from 20mg/kg to over 800mg/kg. In contrast all other tested honeys worldwide have ranged between 1 to 10 mg/kg.
